Mary Louise Black of Martinez, CA passed away on December 2, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91.
Mary was born on January 10, 1928 in Merced, California. She graduated high school in Richmond, California. She married Bertell Black on October 15, 1946 in Los Angeles, California. Mary worked for the US Government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and Concord Naval Weapons Station for 11 years.
Mary and Bertell enjoyed camping and traveling. She loved gardening, knitting, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. Mary was known for her cooking, which she loved to do for her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, always showing that her family was the most important and cherished thing in her life.
Mary is survived by her husband Bertell Black of Martinez, CA, son Dennis (Wendy) of Rodeo, CA, son Gary (Cathy) of Palermo, CA and daughter Darlene Hovde of Fertile, MN. Mary is also survived by seven grandchildren (Jeremy, Linda, Sean, Jessica, Franchesca, Steven, Cathy), thirteen great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Irene Halstead, son Dale Black, brother William Halstead and son-in-law Jon Hovde.
Mary was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Friends & Family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, Dec. 7th from 10~11AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM both at Connolly & Taylor. Interment to follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park.
