Kathryn (Kay) Lopey Simoni passed away at 98 years young in Martinez, California on May 11, 2020 peacefully in her home of 60 years surrounded by family and friends.
Kay was born in Taft, California on December 12, 1921 to Mary (Salars) Lopey and Anthony Lopey. She had three brothers, Stan, Merle and Roy and spent her childhood playing outdoors enjoying the hot climate. Her love for sewing, sports and sun followed her throughout her life. Baseball, water-skiing, and her favorite, tennis gave her such enjoyment. Her family moved to Martinez where she completed high school at Alhambra, and played on a girls softball team during World War II, while attending college in San Francisco. Kay was fun loving, loved to laugh and tell stories, enjoying life to the fullest. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was able to see them throughout their lives. She remained a widow after her husband Vincent Simoni passed away in 1976. She was so proud of her family and will be missed so very much.
Kay is survived by her daughters Michele Grenier (husband Alan) of Poulsbo, Washington and Nancy Simoni Schwartz (husband Dan) of Miami, Florida, grandchildren Christine Grenier, Michael Grenier (wife Cari) and Kristyn Schwartz (fiancé Gregg) and great grandson Benjamin Grenier, nephews Wally (wife Susan), Jon (wife Maxine) and Jim Lopey and niece Becky McDaniel (husband Paul). Kay’s family is appreciative of all the support from her pastor at the Seventh-Day-Adventist church and her close church friends and wonderful neighbors.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, due to the ongoing COVID19 virus requirements.
