Barbara passed away peacefully at home with her loving children at her side. She touched many lives with her love and friendship.
Barbara was born in Porterville, Ca and grew up in Martinez. She graduated from Alhambra Union High School in 1943. After graduation (during the WWII years), she began working for the U.S. Government as a civilian employee, small arms assembler. She was proud to be a “Rosie,” a name for the female WWII workers who filled the position of the men when they went off to war. In 1957 she started her school, bus driving career with Martinez Unified School District, which ended 8 years later due to an injury, her occupation then became a stay at home mother.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Slaney Sr.; sons, Ernie (Bowman) Slaney and Ray Slaney; siblings, Earl, Howard, Win, Bobbie, Dottie, Bruce and Gene Ackerman and Joan Head. She is survived by her children, Sam Slaney Jr. (Melodee), Sherri McRae (Phil), Bob Slaney (Wendy), Don Slaney (Chris) and daughter-in-law Susan (Murray) Slaney; Grandchildren, Marcie, Shannon, Ron, Denise, Mike, Michelle, Mark, Steven, Joe and Brittany; Great Grandchildren, Danielle, Brian, Joshua, Sierra, Haley, Madisyn, Josalyn, Preston, Samantha, Robert, Katie, Rachael, Jessica, Anthony, Brooke, Zach, Cameron, Seth, Dylan, Alexis, Talan, and Savannah; Great-Great Grandchildren, Benny, Zoey, Ava, Blair, Natalie, Hollie, and Gracelyn; Siblings, Clarice, Bob , Barbara Gay, and Clemy Cook.
