Asilee Telfer, 91, passed away on Saturday surrounded by her family. Asilee was born in Martinez to Albin and Margaret McMahon and was the great-granddaughter of Thomas and Adelaide McMahon, Irish immigrants who came to Martinez in 1859. She attended Martinez Grammar School and Notre Dame High School in Burlingame. She married Jack Telfer, a chemist from Joliet Illinois, in 1948 and had 5 children. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2007. Asilee founded Asilee’s Antiques in 1979 with her daughter Patty which operated for 36 years. Asilee was a “go-er” and loved travel adventures with her husband and family. Asilee was warm and compassionate. She donated time to many Bay Area charities and annually organized a toy drive for underprivileged children. She and Jack were active in the Order of Malta which aided infirmed faithful on pilgrimages to Lourdes, France. Asilee’s greatest joy was her family. She was a fun “Grandma” who loved sleep-overs, movie nights, family dinners, and trips to the flea market. Those who knew Asilee would agree that their lives were richer for having known her.
Asilee was predeceased by her husband and one granddaughter. She is survived by her five children, John (and Wilma) Telfer, Michael (and Judy) Telfer, Patricia (and Alfred) Hector, Theresa (and Brian) Uhlir and Thomas (and Lani) Telfer. She is also survived by her brother Andrew McMahon of Martinez, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Seine Vunga for her loving care of our mother. Family & Friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, April 22nd from 4~8PM with Vigil at 7PM at Connolly & Taylor. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherines of Siena Church on Monday, April 23rd at 10:30AM with interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
