William “Bill” Hamilton was born in San Francisco and graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory, Class of 1951. He served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army and graduated from the University of California Berkeley.
He fell in love and married Laurie Ada Barton in July of 1964 and they lived for many years in Lafayette, raising their family and taking on life together. Sadly, Laurie passed away in 1995 but Bill continued on living his life, loving his family and being a loyal friend to many.
Bill began his career working for Contra Costa County in 1960 and worked in a variety of assignments culminating as manager of the County’s Labor and Management Program, retiring in March of 1991. He also served one term as the President of the County Retirees Support Group in their efforts to protect the cost subvention of health plan coverage for County retirees. His leadership was appreciated and effective.
Chances are, if you knew Bill, he taught you a life lesson, gave you advice or “strongly recommended” something be done. But with these lessons learned, Bill passed along a legacy of independence, hard work and accountability to his family and friends.
Bill will be incredibly missed by his children; Stacey, Jennifer and Bart, and grandchildren; Alexia, Jesse and Justine as well as great grandchildren; Josie, Azaria and Jaxen. He also leaves behind his brother Bob, his sister Barbara and his brother in law, Nestor as well as many friends in San Francisco, the East Bay, and especially those at the Concord AA Fellowship.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church in Pleasant Hill on Wednesday, July 19th at 10am with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to, St. Ignatius College Preparatory, 2001 – 37th Ave, San Francisco CA 94116.
